Dear Friends,
We’re excited to invite you to a new season of Gems programming at the J! This winter, our lineup is packed with a variety of engaging and creative classes designed to spark your curiosity, foster connections, and bring joy. Gems is not just for our older adult community—it’s for all adults looking to explore new skills, discover hidden talents, and connect with others.
To help you dive into this season’s offerings, join us for a Winter Registration Brunch on Sunday, January 7, from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. This free open house is the perfect opportunity to register for courses in person while enjoying a delicious brunch. Bring your calendar and your insurance card so we can ensure you’re maximizing your benefits and making the most of what we offer.
Our winter programming highlights some truly unique experiences. For those interested in history and performance, Wise Fools: A Journey Through Jewish Clowning delves into the rich tradition of jesters and clowns in Jewish history. Led by theater artist Danielle Levsky, this interactive class blends storytelling with hands-on movement, giving participants a fun and meaningful introduction to the playful spirit of clowning. If you’ve always wanted to learn chess, our Introduction to Chess course is the perfect place to start. Taught by Woman FIDE Chess Master Jessica Regam, this beginner-friendly class covers the rules, strategies, and techniques needed to master the game.
Music lovers will enjoy our Introduction to Ukulele, a beginner-friendly class that provides an easy and enjoyable way to explore this delightful instrument. You’ll learn chords, strumming techniques, and even play a song or two—no prior experience required! For those looking for a creative evening, our Paint & Sip Night: Abstract Painting invites you to explore the work of Mark Rothko, one of the most renowned abstract painters, while experimenting with acrylics to create your own masterpiece. This relaxed, social event is perfect for a night out with friends or family—just bring your enthusiasm and your favorite beverage.
We’re also excited to introduce A Grandparent’s Legacy, a heartfelt program starting in March. This unique class, led by Jacqueline Tusman, MS, provides grandparents with a beautiful framework to create a written legacy for their grandchildren. Through guided discussions and materials provided in class, participants will reflect on their lives, their family heritage, and the lessons they hope to pass on. Bring a favorite photo of you with your grandchild/ren to help inspire this meaningful memoir project.
In addition to these creative and thought-provoking programs, Gems offers a variety of daytime fitness classes designed to help you meet your wellness goals for the year ahead.
And there’s even more to discover! Gems offers a wide range of classes and events, so no matter your interest or experience level, there’s something just for you.
We can’t wait to see you at the Winter Registration Brunch or in one of our many programs. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out—we’re here to help you get started on your Gems journey.
Shabbat Shalom,
Rachel
