As we kick off the first phase of our facility upgrades, we understand you may have questions about the project. Below, you’ll find key details on timelines, closures, and what to expect. As always, feel free to reach out with any additional questions!
Q: What improvements are being made?
Installation of new energy-efficient lighting
Refinishing the gym floors
Addition of 6 pickleball courts to our gym
Refurbishing backboards and scoreboards
Installing a new gym roof
Adding an energy-efficient HVAC system, including air conditioning for the gym
Q: Is there other work that will be done in addition?
Yes! We will be deep cleaning the gym, including the ductwork, and giving the whole gym a fresh coat of paint.
Q: When will construction take place?
The RACP Construction Project will take place in two phases, beginning on April 14 and expected to be completed by June 15.
Phase One (Interior): Gym and track will be closed from April 14-May 12
Phase Two (Exterior): Gym and track will remain open with safety protocols in place for exterior construction and traffic flow.
Q: Will the JCC be closed during construction?
No, the JCC will remain open! However, the gym and indoor track will be closed for approximately four weeks during phase one of construction while interior renovations take place.
Q: Will any programming be impacted?
We are working hard to relocate or reschedule impacted programs. Programs typically held in the gym, such as pickleball and basketball, have already been notified. If you’re unsure whether your program is impacted, please contact one of our programming directors for more information.

Q: As a preschool parent, does this impact my child’s day?
No, this construction will not impact your child’s day. We’ve aligned this construction with the spring weather, so it won’t disrupt your child’s day. Recess time will be held outside, as planned. Additionally, our Monday Gym class with Miss Lori will be moved outdoors, weather permitting. We are committed to ensuring that outdoor activities remain a priority for the children during this time.
Q: What is RACP and why is the Kaiserman JCC receiving this funding?
The Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) is a Commonwealth grant administered by the Office of the Budget to fund projects that enhance regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical facilities. The Kaiserman JCC was awarded a $500,000 RACP grant as part of a matching program, meaning the state provided these funds after we raised an equal amount in private contributions.
Q: What safety measures are in place during construction?
The safety of our community is our top priority. All subcontractors must pass background checks to ensure they are cleared to work in a facility with children.
We are committed to following the highest safety standards and will communicate any construction-related impacts on gym or parking lot access in advance. To ensure proper ventilation during the project, contractors will implement safety protocols, including the use of fans and barriers to separate construction areas from the rest of the building.
All work will adhere to applicable state guidelines, including a competitive bidding process and prevailing wage requirements, ensuring the project is completed safely, efficiently, and by qualified professionals
Q: What will the final results be?
When construction is complete, we will have a fully refreshed and modernized gymnasium. With a brand-new roof, state-of-the-art lighting, and a refinished floor. The space will look and feel brand new. The addition of air conditioning means that community members, athletes, students and campers can enjoy the gym comfortably year-round. This investment ensures that our JCC remains a destination for sports, fitness, and recreation for years to come.
