Dear Friends,
Our JCC Maccabi Games 2023 journey continues this week in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida! I, along with all of the other delegation heads, am here in Florida preparing for the athletes’ arrival this Sunday. I have found myself taking a moment to pause and reflect on the incredible experiences Team Philadelphia has had so far – I truly cannot wait for what’s in store.
Our adventure began in Israel last month, where 38 talented teens and 5 dedicated coaches from Team Philadelphia proudly represented the Greater Philadelphia Area. Over 8 days of intense competition and 12 days of enriching teen touring, our athletes showcased their incredible skills and demonstrated the spirit of unity that defines our team. The athletes’ achievements have been nothing short of outstanding. Our boys’ soccer team clinched a well-deserved silver medal, while our boys’ basketball team, alongside peers from across the US, also secured a commendable silver medal. Our 4 swimmers took home an impressive total of 23 gold medals, 9 silver medals, and 9 bronze medals. Special shout out to Ava Walters, who remained undefeated in her individual races. Beyond the medals, our teens shared unforgettable moments bonding with their peers, participating in the captivating opening ceremonies, relishing a beach party in Haifa, and celebrating the conclusion of part one of the games with Maccabi Tzair.
As we gear up for another exhilarating round of competition and camaraderie in Florida, we invite you to stay connected with us through our social media channels (facebook / instagram) or our online blog, where we’ll be sharing some highlights and have our social media feeds embedded! The support, we’ve received from home, has been instrumental in making this remarkable experience possible for our talented young athletes. We look forward to sharing more incredible memories with you as we continue to make waves in Ft. Lauderdale.
If you want to learn more about participating in the 2024 Jr. JCC Maccabi Games (for 9-12 year olds) or 2024 JCC Maccabi Games (for 12-16 year olds), please reach out!
Shabbat Shalom,
Barrie
