Libraries at the J!

|

Dear Friends,

Jews are said to be “the people of the book.” From sacred, ancient text, through dynamic, modern stories, it’s true that the experience of the Jewish people is both well documented, and vibrantly relevant, generation to generation (l’dor v’dor). Here at the Kaiserman JCC we are thrilled to contribute to the richness of the narrative by opening two new literature resources to the community next week.

First, a twin set of “little free libraries,” themed around PJ Library. Many in our community will be familiar with PJ Library, and the opportunity for families and young people to receive these monthly gifts in the mail from the Harold Grinspoon Foundation thanks to our partners at jkidphilly, Jewish Learning Venture, and the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia. For those not aware, more information can be found about this opportunity to get free, Jewish books from PJ Library mailed to your home for newborns through age 8, and PJ Our Way books for ages 9-12.

Thanks to two intrepid, and generous young people, college student, Mackenzie Rosin, and middle school student, BB Friedman, PJ Library books will now have a “second home,” at the Kaiserman JCC, where respective PJ Library books, and PJ Our Way books can be donated, shared and accessed by the entire community.

Secondly, our partners at IAC Philadelphia (Israeli American Council) have officially opened up their Hebrew language lending library in our back lobby. The IAC are proud to offer the community a place to enjoy books in Hebrew (Israeli authors and translated books from around the world), and a place to meet and share the love for books. Thank you to their generous contributors and to the volunteers who helped to set the library up and continue to offer their support in the project.

Come visit each of these new community resources at the Kaiserman JCC in our front and back lobbies next week!

Shabbat Shalom,
Alan
