

Part 1 (Tuesday): Beginning with a discussion of Louis Armstrong lips and other legendary horn players, the physical and particularly neurological afflictions of musicians can potentially devastate great careers. We’ll cover various ailments such as Satchmo Syndrome, trumpeter’s syncope, musician’s dystonia, drug addiction and musical hallucinations.
Part 2 (Thursday): Music as Medicine explores how music can be a therapeutic strategy for healing and a motivational force for recovery. We’ll also look at the effect physical illness can have on musical interpretation and the crafting of enduring melody and rhythm.

Dr. Randy Rosenberg (MD FAAN FACP) is a retired neurologist and an Associate Emeritus Professor of Neurology at Temple University School of Medicine. He is also a musician and lecturer in music, with more than 50 years of performance experience on flute in orchestras, jazz and Irish ensembles.
